Traveling Gavel Rules

The purpose of the Traveling Gavel is to encourage Toastmasters in District 15 Area E3 (Utah County) to visit other clubs and practice giving speeches in front of different clubs. Often, in Toastmasters, we get comfortable speaking in front of our own club, but when we get up in front of a new audience the butterflies come back. This will give us a chance to overcome that and at the same time learn from one another and see how other clubs operate. We can all learn from the experience and new friendships can develop.

The Rules

- To take a gavel from the club that has the gavel, a member of another club must come prepared to give a MANUAL SPEECH. You don't have to give the speech, but you must be prepared to give one.

- A club gets 2 points for taking a gavel if no speech is given and 3 points if a speech is given.

- The club that loses the gavel gets 1 point if they allow the taker to give a speech.

- The club with the gavel gets 1 point for each meeting it has the gavel in its possession.

- The club with the gavel must display the gavel at the beginning of each meeting.

- The taker must contact the Area Governor as soon as possible via email so the points can be awarded and the location of the gavel may be updated on this site. Points for keeping the gavel will accumulate for the previous club for each week the Area Governor is not notified.

- The contest runs from 11/18/2009 to 6/30/2010.

Get out there and have some fun. Meet new people and enjoy the experience at the other Utah Valley Clubs.
